Reformed Church in Africa The Reformed Church in Africa was founded in 1968 at Pieter Maritzburg, Natal. The church evolved within the Dutch Reformed Church Mission. During the apartheid era in South Africa, the church took on a separate organization to serve the South Africans of Asian origin, but it is a non-racial church with an open membership. Most of their members are converts from Hinduism. One of the main concerns of the church is to train each member to be an effective, living witness for Jesus Christ. The church is strongly evangelical in its doctrine and approach and its aim is to reach especially Hindus and Moslems for Christ. They have 12 congregations and two mission stations. The 10 ministers and 5 evangelists serve some 2,500 members and regular attenders. The churches meet once every four years in a synod. They have adopted the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of Dort as their doctrinal standards. The RCA has committed itself to the structural union of the "family" of Dutch Reformed churches in South Africa.
