Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) - Zambia Synod
The Church of Central Africa Presbyterian Synod of Zambia traces its origin from the Free Church of Scotland since the 1880s (Livingstonia Mission). Its growth and development before 1984 depended on the missionaries from Scotland and CCAP Livingstonia Synod in Malawi who now and then could send missionaries to preach and administer sacraments to the people of Northern Rhodesia, now Zambia. This was until the 28th October 1984, when the CCAP in Zambia was given a status of a Synod. In view of this, the CCAP General Synod has five CCAP Synods, which
forms the General Synod, and the CCAP General Synod headquarters is in
Lilongwe Malawi. However, when the Synod was constituted in 1984, the
CCAP Church in Zambia had only four indigenous ordained ministers (Rev.
S.M. Mithi, Rev. N.M. Mtonga, and Rev. F.J Mwanza and Rev. T.K.M Zgambo
- who was adopted in 1986), 16 congregations, 2 Presbyteries (Chasefu
and Midlands/Copperbelt) and fewer than 10,000 communicants. The Synod
now has 59 congregations in ten presbyteries, 56 ordained ministers. It has begun a diploma training program in 2008, with 16 students in training. Membership today more than 50,000. The Church subscribes to the Gallican confession, the Scots Confession, the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, the Second Helvetic Confession, the Thirty-nine Articles, the Canons of Dort and the Westminster Confession. Zambia Synod is a member of the Reformed Ecumenical Council. The CCAP General Synod, is also the member of World Alliance of Reformed Churches and locally a member of Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ), THE Christian Council of Zambia (CCZ), the theological education by extension in Zambia (TEEZ) and the Bible society in Zambia (BSZ) Furthermore, the Church has close relations with Reformed Church of Zambia (RCZ), THE United Church of Zambia (UCZ) and the Uniting Presbyterian Church of Zambia (UPCSA) The CCAP Synod of Zambia carries on a missionary witness by having organised preaching stations (prayer houses) and local evangelists at congregational level and has presbytery evangelists at Presbytery level. The also organise evangelism out-reach Campaigns with the help of the men's guild, women's guild and youth who are known as the Christian Youth Fellowship (CYF). ORDINATION OF WOMEN TO THE HOLY MINISTRY. The CCAP Synod of Zambia at its Synod meeting held at Lundazi CCAP Mission from 20th to 25th August 2002, unanimously agreed to the ordination of women to the holy ministry. In view of this, Ms. Kondwani NyaNkhoma, Synod women's worker was licensed on the 25th August 2002. She is now minister in charge of Lundazi West CCAP Congregation. Nevertheless, Rev. Kondwani NyaNkhoma was trained theologically at Zomba Theological College for three year.
